Hoppers

To make hoppers, the rice flour is mixed with coconut milk, warm water, salt, sugar, and yeast to create a batter. Once fermented, the batter is poured into a nonstick pan or griddle and cooked until it is golden brown and crispy.

  • 1 cup diced mixed vegetables (such as carrots, bell peppers, onions, and cabbage)
  • 2 beaten eggs
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • 1 teaspoon curry powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Add the diced vegetables and stir-fry for 5 minutes until they are tender.

🀷 SUBSTITUTIONS AND VARIATIONS

Here are some possible substitutions and variations for the vegetarian koththu recipe:

Substitutions:

If you don't have roti, you can use another type of flatbread such as chapati or paratha, or you can use noodles or rice instead.
If you don't have all of the vegetables listed, you can use whatever you have on hand or omit them altogether. Some other vegetables that would work well in this recipe include broccoli, zucchini, and peas.
If you don't have curry powder, you can use another type of spice blend or mix together your own combination of spices such as cumin, coriander, and turmeric.
Variations:

To make a protein-rich version of this dish, you can add diced chicken, beef, or shrimp to the koththu. You can also add tofu or tempeh for a vegetarian version.
To add more flavor to the dish, you can try using different herbs and spices such as cilantro, basil, or chili flakes.

To make the dish more filling, you can add a can of drained and rinsed chickpeas or lentils to the mixture.
I hope these suggestions help you customize the recipe to your preference and make it your own! Enjoy.

πŸ“ TIPS AND TRICKS

Here are a few tips and tricks for making the best koththu:

Use a high-quality flatbread: Roti is the traditional choice for koththu, but you can also use chapati, paratha, or another type of flatbread. Look for a high-quality flatbread that is soft and pliable, as it will be easier to dice and stir-fry.

Dice the roti into small pieces: The smaller the pieces of roti, the easier it will be to stir-fry and coat them with the vegetables and eggs. Aim for pieces that are about 1/2 inch to 1 inch in size.

Use a wok or large pan: Koththu requires a lot of stirring and tossing, so it is best to use a wok or large pan that has plenty of room for everything to move around.

Stir-fry the vegetables until they are tender: The vegetables should be tender but still have a bit of crunch when you add the roti. If they are too soft, they may become mushy when you stir-fry everything together.

Adjust the spices to your preference: The recipe calls for curry powder, but you can use a different spice blend or mix together your own combination of spices. Adjust the amount of spices to your preference, and taste the dish as you go to ensure that it is to your liking.

I hope these tips and tricks help you make the best koththu! Enjoy.

AMISH BROCCOLI SALAD RECIPE WITH ADDITIONAL BACON

This Extra Baconey Amish Broccoli Salad is so easy to prepare and makes a delicious side dish for a weeknight supper, a potluck, or a special occasion.

An excellent side dish for a hearty main entrΓ©e. To make dish unique, we add more bacon and smoked cheese. These additives contribute to the distinctive flavors that set our Extra Baconey Amish Broccoli Salad apart from other dishes. Who doesn't adore bacon, too?

πŸ₯“ WHAT MAKES THIS RECIPE SPECIAL?

It's simple to create my Amish broccoli salad recipe. There are not many ingredients, and there is no need to slave over a burner for hours. It only requires mixing and letting the salad rest if the bacon is previously prepared.
Bacon is a staple at Ramshackle Pantry. Did you know that in 2012, I collaborated on the novelty cookbook Fifty Shades of Bacon[Affiliate Link]? I did, and it was my love letter to bacon. However, maybe this recipe will be your dinner table's love letter.
It is ideal to prepare in advance for your Easter meal, Christmas, or Thanksgiving gatherings because there is so little active time. It can be a quick and excellent dish to bring to your potluck and is a fantastic way to save time.
It will have a little bit more flair and taste because we spiced it up with some smokey cheese and more bacon. You should also try this German potato salad, ranch-style macaroni, or these cheesy mashed potatoes if you're seeking for more delicious holiday side dishes.
Whatever you prepare for dinner or your special event, remember to treat yourself!

πŸ₯¦ INGREDIENTS

This side dish's ingredient list is rather simple, and it doesn't take much to create something delicious. What you'll need is as follows:
  • Mayonnaise
  • Sour Cream
  • Granulated sugar
  • Salt
  • Cauliflower
  • Broccoli
  • Bacon
  • Smoked Cheddar cheese
CHEESE TYPE
For this meal, I use smoked cheddar cheese, and the type of cheese you choose can be a wonderful opportunity to showcase your personal preferences. I wanted to add a little extra bacon flavor because bacon is a smoked product.
Although the smoke in the cheese does not actually contribute bacon, it does help the dish have a bacon-like flavor. A pepper jack cheese was another option I was considering for this meal.                   That, in my opinion, might give the conventional recipe a wonderful kick and slightly alter it. Use what you like or have; I use smoked cheddar cheese.

🍲 INSTRUCTIONS

This recipe only requires four steps. How simple is that? Mix all the components that can be chopped together. After that, combine them and give them some time to relax.

HOW THINLY SHOULD THE CAULIFLOWER AND BROCCOLI BE CHUNKED?

Take your time with this. Simply reduce them in size so that each bite may fit in the mouth. Making this salad difficult to eat is the absolute last thing you want to do. Make sure that the pieces are tiny enough to be handled with a fork and spoon.

ALLOWING THE SALAD TO REST
You are best served by letting the salad sit and chill for a time, just like with any mayonnaise salad that contains white granular sugar. In a pinch, you could serve the salad right away, but the flavor would differ from how I tell you to make it in the recipe.
The flavors will really meld together and the sugar will have time to properly tie this Amish broccoli salad together if you let it sit in the fridge. Give the meal some time to sit, ideally overnight.

🀷 SUBSTITUTIONS AND VARIATIONS
You may modify this in a few different ways to make it somewhat unique.
  • More bacon should be used. Utilize less bacon. Use bacon with taste.
  • Cauliflower - Feel free to alter this as necessary. Simply add more broccoli if you don't like cauliflower.
  • Vegans should leave out the bacon.
  • Cheese: I use smoked cheddar, but you can use your favorite cheese flavor to make a variety of replacements.
WOULDN'T MORE BACON HAVE BEEN ADDED?

Yes, I tried a few various approaches, but they were all relatively inadequate. It's not that they were poor salads; rather, I simply felt that the solutions I came up with frequently required more effort than they were worth.
Making some bacon mayonnaise was one of the options I looked at. When I did this, the mayo was excellent. However, adding bacon (and a little fat) to mayo is the only step in making bacon mayo. If I'm only going to add mayo to the recipe, is it even necessary to make a separate batch? I didn't believe that.
I also looked for bacon cheese, which I know is made in some places. I chose smoked cheddar cheese because I could not locate any that were easily accessible at my neighborhood grocery store. In fact, I believe that smoked cheddar makes me happier because it typically has a more flavorful smokey flavor than bacon cheese.

πŸ“¦ EXTRA BACONEY AMISH BROCCOLI SALAD STORAGE

In the refrigerator, this dish lasts up to three days. I prepare this the day before so that it would be ready on the big day when I cook it for a potluck or a holiday like Thanksgiving.

Why is a dish considered Amish?
Amish cuisine frequently uses homemade or entire foods. On an Amish dinner, foods like cheese, mayonnaise, and veggies could all be present.

πŸ“ TIPS AND TRICKS

  • Before serving, let the salad sit for at least two hours and ideally overnight.
  • Mix the wet components first, then add the remaining ingredients.
  • Cauliflower and broccoli are favorites of my dog. The stalks are mine to preserve and give out as treats.

    EASY APPLE CRISP RECIPE

Apple Crisp has the same flavor of apple pie but without the fuss! Anyone can create this delectable dessert, which is an easy apple crisp recipe. Try this recipe if you want a no-fuss dessert with comfort food-like qualities because it is incredibly simple.

πŸ₯§ WHAT MAKES THIS RECIPE SPECIAL?

The people's recipe is apple crisp. Even though it is so straightforward, it is delicious. This recipe might be for you if you have trouble creating crusts or don't have any on hand.
Apple Crisp is truly rather simple, and that is part of its appeal. You can whip up a top-notch Apple Crisp in no time if you have some apples and a few other simple ingredients.
Check out the recipes for this rhubarb pie, this Dutch apple pie, this blueberry pie, or this American apple pie if you're seeking for pies. With example, this would make a delicious dessert for grilled ribeye steak. Treat yourself to whatever you decide to cook.

    🍏 INGREDIENTS

This has all the flavors of apple pie without the actual pie.

    • Butter
    • Brown sugar
    • Flour
    • Oats
    • Cinnamon
    • Nutmeg

KINDS OF APPLES TO USE FOR APPLE CRISP

We are continuing to use the same two apple varieties that I believe will work well for apple crisp, just like the other recipes we have given in our apple series. Granny Smith and Braeburn apples. Granny smith apples are what I'm using for this specific recipe.
Granny Smith apples are sufficiently sweet and maintain a good, crisp texture. They do tend to be tart, but keep in mind that this delicacy has a ton of sugar added to it. Apples such as Granny Smith will work perfectly.

    🍲 INSTRUCTIONS

The butter is the apple crisp's only subtle component. We want the butter to stay whole in a traditional apple pie recipe with a butter pie crust. The pie crust's flaky structure and taste are produced by the butter evaporating as it cooks in the flour. That is unnecessary for our apple crisp recipe.
In truth, I had a lesson to learn. I tried to use butter the same way I had been in the pies, but it just led to issues. We use a butter crust for our apple pies, which calls for freezing the butter.
After cleaning the apples, preparing the toppings, and adding them to the crip, bake the dessert.
But in this recipe, we'll melt the butter and incorporate it into the streusel topping. One of the key components of this dish is definitely softened butter.

    🀷 SUBSTITUTIONS AND VARIATIONS

There are several ways to modify this dish.
    • Apples, Granny Smith - This recipe calls for Granny Smith apples, but you could use any apples you have on hand.
    • Did you know that all it takes to manufacture your own brown sugar is to combine it with white granulated sugar and molasses? Of course. You could instead use 1/2 cup of honey or maple syrup in place of the 3/4 cup of brown sugar.

🍨 BEST SERVED WITH ICE CREAM

Ice cream is a fantastic addition to the majority of apple desserts, but I believe it plays a bigger role in our apple crisp. A great apple pie, in my opinion, may rely on the crust to give the filling a delicate and intriguing flavor and texture.
However, with apple crisp, we are hammering folks with the apple flavor, so I believe a great, creamy ice cream may balance that flavor and texture.
Overall, I love apple crisp, and our family has been enjoying it on a regular basis for several years. Since we have an apple tree in our yard, we inevitably start thinking of ways to use them all.
Although the apples are very tart, we can simply and conveniently use the apples from our tree thanks to this method. If I don't go collect them, they fall to the ground, rotting, and attracting hornets in large quantities. Not fun at all.

    πŸ“¦ STORAGE

This will last three to four days in the refrigerator. It can also be frozen and will keep nicely.

    πŸŽ“ HISTORY TIDBIT

The majority of the early American apple cultivars were more suited for making hard cider than for eating. In actuality, Johnny Appleseed was more famous for his cider apples than his eating apples. Even apple trees planted with the intention of producing cider were cut down during the Prohibition era.

What distinguishes apple crisp from apple pie?
Imagine a typical apple pie that is flawless. Put the apple pie's interior—just the guts—on a dish. Add a lovely oatmeal streusel topping after that. It's bingo, bango, bongo. a crisp apple. With simple materials found around the kitchen, practically anybody can prepare apple crisp, an uncomplicated variation of the apple delicacy.

Which apples make the greatest apple crisp?
For apple crisp, Granny Smith apples work fantastically. Both Braeburn and honey crisp are acceptable. Very nicely, Granny keeps its freshness.

    INGREDIENTS

    • 5 medium granny smith apples, peeled, cored, and chopped
    • 1 stick butter, unsalted and softened
    • ¾ cup brown sugar
    • ¾ cup flour
    • ¾ cup oats
    • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
    • 1 teaspoon nutmeg

    INSTRUCTIONS

    1. Set oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit.
    2. Put the apples in a 9x9 pan with some little grease.
    3. In a separate bowl, thoroughly combine the remaining ingredients until they resemble a thick paste.
    4. Apply mixture to apples.
    5. For 40 minutes, bake. If the apple mixture is bubbling, check it. The apple crisp is ready once it is and the apples can be readily poked with a fork. If not, try again after another five minutes.
    6. Remove and serve the apples as they are finished.
